When We Work Together We Can Accomplish Great Things!
Put Your Hand To It

"In a Peanuts cartoon, Lucy demands that Linus change the TV channel. He belligerently asks, “What makes you think you can demand that?” Lucy replies, “These five fingers. Individually they are nothing, but when I curl them together in a single unit, they form a weapon that is terrible to behold!” “Which channel do you want?” Linus asks. Then he looks at his fingers and says, “Why can’t you guys get organized like that?”

Have you noticed that the Bible passages chosen this week all have the same theme - work to keep the unity as a body in order to accomplish great things. Living together in love is a recurrent theme in the New Testament and needed to be stressed in the early church just as it is needed today. We are fallen people and do not always love easily but there is hope in Christ. We can live a life worthy of our calling and that is one of the main goals of the Holy Spirit - to lead us to live that life. Christ has called us to serve him but has not left us on our own - the Spirit is there for us. In John 14:8 Jesus promises, “ I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you” and he has come to us in the Holy Spirit to be our guide. When we work together in Christ, we form a fist (not for hitting!) that can handle any job.

QUESTION: How can I work with the church as the Holy Spirit leads us forward?

FAMILY: Lord, help us to consider the needs of our church and be grateful that you give us opportunities to serve.
